14th Annual Hoteliers Have Heart

The Shepherds of Good Hope soup kitchen was bustling with activity when the Ottawa Gatineau Hoteliers made their annual visit to drop off 8500 pounds of food at 10:30 am for the 14th year in a row on February 142014 - Valentine’s Day. There was so much food that another truck will be delivering $1100 worth of food again early next week

Each year on February 14th, representatives from the Hoteliers Association come to the Shepherds of Good Hope soup kitchen to help fill their pantry and serve lunch to the many hungry men and women coming through the doors.  Thank you Hoteliers!

Ottawa’s 8th Annual Mitzvah “Good Deeds” Day

On Sunday February 9th, 2014 for the second consecutive year, 25 young adults between the ages of 22 and 35 from Ottawa’s Jewish Community rolled up their sleeves to prep, cook, serve and clean for those in need at Shepherds of Good Hope Soup Kitchen at 233 Murray Street.

This group helped out as part of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s 8th Annual Mitzvah “Good Deeds” Day.

Mitzvah Day is all about imaginative, hands-on projects that play a pivotal role in building a stronger community -- one good deed at a time.  Regardless of age, gender or affiliation – people can donate their time and energy to a diverse range of vital causes that make a tangible difference for those in need.

Each day during the weekend, 25 volunteers from community organizations serve the over 1600 most vulnerable men and women in the city of Ottawa that come through the doors of Shepherds of Good Hope.

Incredible Auction Items

Featuring Amazing Auction Items and Chefs!

Live Auction - Dinner for 10 at Earnscliffe
earnscliffe, british high commisioner, ottawa, ontario, shepherds of good hopeThe British High Commisioner has generously donated a dinner for 10 at Earnscliffe.
Earnscliffe is a Victorian manor in Ottawa, Ontario. It is home of the British High Commissioner to Canada, and it was home to Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. The manor overlooks the Ottawa River just east of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge. It is located just to the northwest of Sussex Drive across from the Lester B. Pearson Building.
The house is a National Historic Site of Canada, and the location of a plaque erected by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, but since it is a diplomatic residence, it is closed to visitors.

Chef Danny Mongeon, Hooch Bourbon House
Born and raised in Ottawa, Chef Danny Mongeon began cooking at the age of thirteen for Neil Tully, executive chef of Friday's Roast Beef House. Neil took Danny under his wing and began to teach him the ways of the kitchen.
This experience proved to be very educational and rewarding. Danny felt his vocation was a career in cooking.

After working under some of Ottawa's greatest Chefs, Danny helped open Brutt Cantina Sociale in downtown Hull.  The restaurant was an instant hit and helped Mongeon gain the confidence to open his own restaurant.  Soon, Hooch was conceptualized.  Mongeon's take on southern cuisine, seafood and raw plates has been stunning diners since the doors opened.  His creative menu - that changes frequently - is paired with craft cocktails and small batch bouron whiskey.
"I really can relate to this important cause, said Chef Mongeon.  There was a time in my youth when I witnessed the good things the Shepherds of Good Hope do.  I'm proud to help them raise money to continue their work."
